Before undergoing a construction project, it is important to estimate how much the materials and labor are going to cost during construction. During this process, we can utilize different models to come up with possible scenarios depending on how you approach the job. The estimation will include the total cost of the project based on various activities within each phase. While some expenses are fixed, others are contingent on different factors. Shingobee is constructing the new community center for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. The walls are being constructed with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF), a progressive, energy-efficient method. Concrete Inc. of St. Cloud, MN (Shingobee’s subcontractor) constructed the walls utilizing more than 50% local tribal labor. Shingobee and Concrete Inc. conducted training on ICF wall construction, OSHA regulations, and plan reading at the Leech Lake Tribal College earlier this year, to prepare and train local laborers for the construction of this facility.

Shingobee Builders, in collaboration with the design team of DSGW Architects and Obermiller Nelson Engineering, has begun construction of a school in Fort Totten, North Dakota, that will be a net-zero energy building, the first of its kind on tribal land in the country.
